Smiffed

Monday, June 19th, 2006

You ever notice how new words would spring up around popular objects like burning, ripping, photoshoping, etc, etc.  Well today I come to you with a proposition for a new word meant to be used with the ipod, "smiffed".

First a little lesson on the root of the word.  "Smiffed" is actually Smith, as in the name.  It came from a tv character name John Smith who has the abitlity to see the future, among other things, by simply touching things or people.  For example, one time he shook hands with a man and had a vision of the man years into the future.  The word uses f’s instead of a "th" simply because after extensive use of any words, people tend to cut them short or simplify them.  I decided to cut to the chase and simplified it for them.

So how you ask will the word be used?  Simple.  Say you’re listening to a randomized playlist with a lot songs or your entire library of music, also randomized.  While you’re nearing the end of one song, your head starts thinking of a new song.  If the next song is the song that you were thinking about, you’ve just "smiffed" it.  As you can tell, the word shows your clairvoyant powers over your own ipod.  Use the word to impress your friends, and before you know it, they’ll be asking you for weather predictions.  Spread the word.  Integrate it into your everyday language.  Leave your mark on the English language Today!

PSP vs ipod

The other day, I was listening to my ipod at work when I noticed that a coworker is using a PSP (Playstation Portable for the uninitiated) to listen to music as well.  Amazed at seeing a PSP at work, I pointed it out to her.  She started a sales pitch about how the PSP does everything an ipod can do and more.  As I listened to her pitch, I started to think up of good counterpoints I can bring up in defense of the ipod.  I looked at my ipod then at her PSP and came up with counterpoint that I knew she couldn’t argue.

"I know one thing my ipod can do that your PSP can’t do."

"What," she asked with a quizzical look.

Without saying anything, I picked up my ipod and stuffed it into my pocket.  We both had a good laugh about that.
